tzdb data for ships at sea and other miscellany This file is in the public domain, so clarified as of 2009-05-17 by Arthur David Olson. These entries are for uses not otherwise covered by the tz database. Their main practical use is for platforms like Android that lack support for POSIX proleptic TZ strings. On such platforms these entries can be useful if the timezone database is wrong or if a ship or aircraft at sea is not in a timezone. Starting with POSIX 1003.1-2001, the entries below are all unnecessary as settings for the TZ environment variable. E.g., instead of TZ='Etc/GMT+4' one can use the POSIX setting TZ='<-04>+4'. Do not use a POSIX TZ setting like TZ='GMT+4', which is four hours behind GMT but uses the completely misleading abbreviation "GMT". The following zone is used by tzcode functions like gmtime, which load the "UTC" file to handle seconds properly.
