From Vernice Anderson, Personal Secretary to Philip Jessup,
US Ambassador At Large (oral history interview, 1971-02-02):

Saturday, the 14th [of October, 1950] - ...  The time was all the
more confusing at that point, because we had crossed the
International Date Line, thus getting two Sundays.  Furthermore, we
discovered that Wake Island had two hours of daylight saving time
making calculation of time in Washington difficult if not almost
impossible.
